Thatching your Home
The care and repair of your thatched home can seem daunting to a new owner – or even an old hand at living under straw. Training Programmes
Rumpelstiltskin Thatching Company have designed and implemented a programme of training for Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service. Over a six month period, most local stations in the county have been visited, and all fire fighters, both retained and full time, have attended. Using a demonstration thatched roof all officers have been shown the basics of how thatch is applied, and how best to remove it in an emergency situation.
This programme has been very well received and we are about to start similar schemes for many of our surrounding counties.
It should be remembered that a thatch fire is comparatively rare, and so slow to burn that they are of very low risk to the inhabitants. However, with the fire services better prepared it is hoped that damage to often ancient and historically important buildings can be minimised.

Demonstrations and Talks
Both Matt and David are available to book for thatching demonstrations or illustrated talks for a multitude of occasions. They are a regular fixture at Wychwood Forest Fair, and even give lectures to a summer school at Christchurch College Oxford.

Rumpelstiltskin have recently been working with Oxfordshire County Council on a very rare example of an agricultural building. The building has a grade 2 listing and is on the site of a scheduled ancient monument. They have thoroughly researched the building style, liaised with conservation officers and English Heritage to put together an extensive repair and restoration programme gaining all necessary consent along the way.
